Advice to Exhibitors
Failure to follow this advice may result in loss of points or disqualification.
General Advice
- Please read all the advice and rules published in this schedule.
- Prepare your exhibit in advance of arriving at the show. If you need to prepare when you arrive we have a prep bench for you to use. Please do not use the show benches.
- Each exhibit must have a pre-printed or correctly completed 'late entry' card which includes your exhibitor number.
- Size where stated must be observed.
Division A Vegetables & Fruit
- Always try to have your fruit and vegetables of similar display size.
- Rhubarb must be pulled, for best presentation leave about 3” (75mm) of leaf blade on stalk.
- Onion skins to be left on.
- Runner beans to have part of stalk left on.
- Herbs, 2 sprays of each, named, present in a container.
- Onions & Shallots, ‘show dressed’ means:- tops cut off and tied with neutral coloured raffia, roots lightly trimmed . This includes the Walkhampton Tray.
- Tomatoes, stalks to be attached.
- Beetroot will be judged for quality rather than size.
- Cucumbers and courgettes may include the flower.
- Courgettes- approximately 150mm, in all cases grown on a slate and turned regularly.
- Fruit should be arranged on a plate and should not be polished.
- Apples, stalks to be left on
Division B Flowers
- Pansy & fuchsia flower heads to be presented on a board with stems in water underneath.
- ‘Variety’ in flowers means variety of type, not necessarily colour.
- A ‘bloom’ RHS definition for this show is ‘One open flower’ only, no side blooms or buds, e.g.: of a tulip, or one flower head, e.g.: of a chrysanthemum, dahlia, asters.
- Flowers may be held in place using wire, oasis and cotton wool.
Division C Floral Art
- Flowers for classes 64 to 68 need not be grown by the exhibitor - no points awarded.
- Please observe dimensions stated.
Division D Garden Classes
- Best kept & cropped gardens include fruit and vegetables, not just plants.
- Closing date for classes 70 to 71 and 127 to 128, is 27th July 2023. NO ENTRIES AFTER THIS TIME.
Division E Produce
- Beer and wine that is under pressure must be in a suitable pressure resistant bottle with a suitable closure.
- Bottle of wine must be in a clear bottle with a flanged cork and only show type of wine on label.
- Date of making should be on jam labels.
- Chutney needs to be 3 months old and be sealed with a screw top lid.
- Classes 83 to 88 must have a wax seal, cellophane cover or plain screw lid only and jar is to be filled to the bottom of the neck.
- All cling film is to be removed by the exhibitor.
- Exhibitors may make more than one entry in classes 89-93 inclusive.
Division F Cookery
- All food exhibits must be benched cold.
Division G Handicraft
- Please advise on entry form or online the size of your entry.
- Clothes must not have been previously worn or exhibited.
- All knitting must be hand knitted (not machined).
- All sewn articles may be hand sewn or machined.
- Recycled Art items must have a card explaining the work carried out.
- Please state on exhibitor card if a kit has been used.
Division H Photography
- Photographs must have been taken by the entrant and be unframed, display sleeves are provided.
- Maximum two entries per person, per class.
Division I Creative at Home
- Scarecrow is judged on originality, creativity, humour, and workmanship.
- Most Welcoming Front Door include the door’s immediate surroundings. Use your gardening skills to enhance your front door to make it welcoming & lift your spirits every time you come home not just for a day but for the whole growing season.
Divisions J-N Children's Classes
- Children must include their age on each entry card.
